Time Clock Calculator

Add one or more clock-in and clock-out sessions for a workday. The calculator totals exact work time, subtracts unpaid breaks, supports overnight sessions, converts the result to decimal hours, and can estimate pay.

Up to 8 sessions Overnight work Unpaid breaks Optional punch rounding Optional pay estimate

Time Clock Calculator

Enter each separate work period once. Leave unused sessions completely blank.

Exact time is the default. Use rounding only when it matches the applicable workplace policy.

Add another session for a split shift, meal break, off-site period or second clock-in.

Sessions are added together independently. Do not enter overlapping work periods, because overlapping time would be counted more than once.

How to use the Time Clock Calculator

  1. Enter the first clock-in and clock-out pair.
  2. Add unpaid break minutes only when the break occurred inside that session.
  3. Use another session for a split shift or a second clock-in after a break.
  4. Keep exact punch times selected unless a valid workplace policy requires rounding.
  5. Add an hourly rate only when you want a basic pay estimate.
  6. Select Calculate work time to see gross time, breaks, total worked time and decimal hours.

What is a time clock calculator?

A time clock calculator totals one or more clock-in and clock-out pairs. It is useful when a workday contains several separate sessions, such as a morning period, a lunch break and an afternoon period.

Total worked time = total clocked time - unpaid break time

Single-session example

Clock in: 8:00 AM

Clock out: 5:00 PM

Unpaid break: 30 minutes

Total worked: 8 hours 30 minutes
Decimal hours: 8.50

Multiple clock-punch example

Session 1: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Session 2: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Total worked: 8 hours 30 minutes
Decimal hours: 8.50

In this example, the one-hour gap between sessions is not counted as worked time, so it does not need to be entered again as an unpaid break.

Overnight clock calculation

When clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the calculator treats clock-out as occurring on the following day.

Clock in: 10:00 PM

Clock out: 6:00 AM

Result before breaks: 8 hours

How punch rounding works

Exact punch times are used by default. Optional rounding changes each clock-in and clock-out to the nearest selected interval before duration is calculated.

Entered time Nearest 5 minutes Nearest 15 minutes
8:02 AM 8:00 AM 8:00 AM
8:08 AM 8:10 AM 8:15 AM
5:06 PM 5:05 PM 5:00 PM
Rounding rules may be limited by law, contract or workplace policy. Do not select a rounding interval simply to reduce recorded work time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter more than one clock-in and clock-out pair?
Yes. Add up to eight sessions for the same workday.
Should I enter lunch as a break or a separate session?
Use either method, but do not count the same break twice. You can enter one long session with unpaid break minutes, or use separate morning and afternoon sessions with the gap left outside both sessions.
Can it calculate a night shift?
Yes. A clock-out earlier than clock-in is treated as the following day.
Does it calculate overtime?
This tool totals one workday and estimates straight-time pay. Use the Time Card Calculator or Overtime Calculator for weekly or daily overtime rules.
Does it save my clock entries?
No. Entries are calculated in the browser and are cleared when you reset the tool or leave the page.
Is the pay estimate a final paycheck amount?
No. It does not include taxes, deductions, overtime premiums, bonuses or every payroll rule.
